There are many reason to start a blog, including seo, providing users with information, sharing info and making money. I wanted to start an articles section for some time, but felt it would be too time consuming. By having a nice admin panel you are encouraged to write and can spend less time thinking and more time writing. I found Wordpress the easiest blogging software to use, I also tested Nucleus Webblog and Geekblog but found the menu system too complicated.

The disadvantage of scripting your own blog is the obvious cost of time, The benefits far out way this including SEO, customizability and speed benefits.
